Seattle Seahawks Acquire Towering WR Before Week 3

The Seattle Seahawks added size and speed to their receiver room Wednesday, signing towering wideout Malick Meiga to the practice squad after a Tuesday tryout, via the NFL transaction wire.

Meiga, 25, is an undrafted rookie out of Coastal Carolina who spent training camp with the Carolina Panthers.

The Ivory Coast-born, Quebec-raised receiver was waived with an injury designation in August after one preseason catch — a 13-yard reception in the Hall of Fame Game.

He has since recovered from the undisclosed injury and is now on Seattle’s practice squad, though he remains on the commissioner’s exempt list while his work visa is processed.

Once cleared, he can practice with the defending Super Bowl champions.

At 6-foot-4 and 201 pounds, Meiga offers a rare combination of length and explosiveness. He ran a 4.43-second 40-yard dash at his pro day, a time that stands out for a player of his frame.

College production was modest: 35 receptions for 432 yards and two touchdowns across five seasons, first at Penn State (mostly special teams) and then two years at Coastal Carolina, where he posted a career-high 19 catches for 209 yards and a score in 2025.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats selected him in the second round of the 2026 CFL Draft, but Meiga chose the NFL path.

Seattle’s move comes as the team juggled other roster pieces — promoting safety Rodney Thomas II to the 53-man roster and placing guard Anthony Bradford on injured reserve — while also adding defensive tackle Uso Seumalo to the practice squad.

Seattle already has five receivers on the active roster. Meiga is a developmental depth piece, not an immediate threat to the rotation.

His size could help in contested-catch situations and red-zone work if he earns practice reps and eventually an elevation.

For a player who bounced from Penn State’s special-teams role to a modest Coastal Carolina stat line and a brief Panthers stint, the Seahawks practice squad is another chance to prove the athletic traits translate.

Whether the 6-foot-4 Canadian sticks will depend on how quickly the visa clears and how he looks once he can practice.

For now, it is a low-risk addition of a long, fast body for a team that likes to develop talent on its 17-man practice squad.
