Seattle Seahawks And Giants Make Familiar QB Swap In 2025

The Seattle Seahawks added to their quarterback room on Friday as the QB carousel unwinds before the beginning of OTAs. The Seahawks have a new QB1 in 2025 after trading Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders.

A wild QB carousel in 2025

Veteran quarterback Sam Darnold signed a three-year deal with Seattle worth $100 million after an impressive season in 2024 with the Minnesota Vikings. The Seahawks are in quarterback limbo after trading their last franchise guy, Russell Wilson, to the Denver Broncos in 2022.

Wilson signed with the New York Giants this offseason after the Giants moved on from Daniel Jones midseason. One of their backup quarterbacks from last season is returning to Seattle.

Per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Seahawks are signing Drew Lock.

“Reunion: Veteran QB Drew Lock agreed to terms with the Seahawks, per source,” Pelissero posted on X.  “One of the pieces of the Russell Wilson trade, Lock is now back for a second stint in Seattle, this time backing up Sam Darnold.”

Lock spent two years in Seattle following his trade from the Broncos. Like with the Broncos in 2022, Wilson is going to the locker room that Lock occupied the season prior, and Lock is going to the Seahawks.

Lock threw for 1,071 yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions in 2024. The 2019 second-round pick by the Broncos has thrown for 6,354 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 28 interceptions in his five-year NFL career.

Unlike in 2022 when he had the chance to compete for the QB1 job with Smith, Lock is set to battle for the QB2 job behind Darnold.

The Seahawks have Darnold, Lock, Sam Howell, and Jaren Hall on their roster.
