The Seattle Seahawks had a disappointing finish to the 2023-24 NFL season. They missed the playoffs by one game after making a surprising wild card appearance the year prior. Now, that left the Seahawks with one major question.
That question was whether or not they were going to pick up QB Geno Smith’s base salary next season. Well, the Seahawks have informed Smith of their decision. Read below to find out what that is.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Seattle Seahawks have informed Geno Smith that they plan to make his base salary for 2024 guaranteed. The Seahawks had until February 16th to make an official decision on this. Now, it appears that they have made it.
Smith is due to make $12.7 million next season in base salary. This comes after making $1.2 million in base salary this past season. It is safe to say that this is a significant raise.
While Smith is far from the cheapest quarterback in the NFL, some may argue he is a bargain compared to the highest-paid quarterbacks. For example, Daniel Jones is due to make $40 million next season. The Seahawks are paying Smith 30% of that salary.
Seattle has shown that they believe Smith is valuable. What kind of numbers did Smith put up last season? In 12 starts, Smith had 3,624 passing yards and 20 touchdown passes. Let’s see if he improves upon those numbers in 2024.
