Seattle Seahawks have several key storylines to follow throughout OTAs and Minicamp in May and June
Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks have been going through massive changes this offseason. New head coach. New staff. Several changes to entire personnel groups. But which storylines are most intriguing as OTAs and Mandatory Minicamp stretch through May and June?

Based on what we've learned through one week of OTAs there are going to be several key storylines to continue following as things progress for this year's new look Seattle Seahawks. Let's dive in.

Installing the New Seahawks Offense

Geno Smith is already reportedly "very impressed" with Ryan Grubb's offense as OTAs kick off. Grubb is the team's new offensive coordinator who just helped develop Michael Penix Jr. into a first round pick and lead Washington to the College Football Playoff this past season. And things are already starting to click. Smith says he "has a really good grasp" of the offense already and it fits his skill set perfectly.

Geno Smith isn't exactly a dual threat quarterback who runs a lot, so i should help him to be placed inside a dropback offense that takes advantage of his ball placement. Smith is already looking comfortable. That needs to be the case if the Seahawks are going to find themselves in the playoffs this fall.

Can Byron Murphy and DL dominate in new scheme?

Byron Murphy had the most impressive pass rush pressure rate in the entire 2024 NFL Draft class of interior defensive line prospects, so it's already known that he can be an issue on the defensive front. But just how dominant can he be at the next level at his smaller size? Is he going to be an Aaron Donald? a Jurrell Casey?

Murphy is reportedly looking strong already, but as the team speeds things up over the next ten OTAs and Mandatory Minicamp days Murphy's dominance up front and syncing with other defensive lineman will be important to watch for his year one development.

The New Look Offensive Line

There's a great chance the Seahawks roll out four different offensive lineman this year. Charles Cross should hold down his spot from a year ago, but both guard spots, the center, and right tackle are likely different names. And there's a great chance at least two of the spots aren't settled in terms of projected starters as of this writing.

Olu Oluwatimi (center) and McClendon Curtis (guard) are far from sure things as their starting positions. Olu has a little more experience, but Curtis doesn't have almost anything to speak of in that regard. Christian Haynes likely steals the right guard spot for sure. But from there the team also has a handful of late round and undrafted free agents battling for active roster spots too.

George Fant and Laken Tomlinson are both new to the team this year and should be nice bandaids at right tackle and left guard respectively, but both could use some talent to push behind them too. Monitoring this situation will be key over the next few weeks.
