Second 49ers injury report for Week 13, at Eagles
Morgan Tencza-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers know they will likely need a star-studded defensive line to deliver its best if they are to prevail against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

"We’ve got to go and do the things we’ve got to do upfront to be successful to help us win this game," defensive coordinator Steve Wilks said in his Thursday press conference.

Despite being without a starter on the D-Line for the second successive practice ahead of their NFC Championship Game rematch, the 49ers are seemingly in a strong position to achieve their ambitions on the defensive side of the trenches against Philadelphia.

The 49ers were without starting defensive tackle Arik Armstead once again because of a foot injury. However, the 2015 first-round pick moved to calm fears of him missing the most highly anticipated game of the 49ers' season, insisting on Thursday that he would be out there in Philadelphia.

He and former Eagle Javon Hargrave, who left Philadelphia for San Francisco in free agency this offseason, have combined for 73 pressures, per Pro Football Focus, and 11 sacks in reviving an interior pass rush that was largely dormant in 2022.

"It’s going to be a challenge this week, but that’s the one thing that we talked about. We’ve got to do a great job inside with our tackles, said Wilks.

Save for a brief blip during a three-game losing streak before the Week 9 bye, the 49ers have done a great job with their tackles, and the odds of them doing so against Jason Kelce and Co. will be greatly increased if Armstead makes good on his promise.

On the other side of the trenches for San Francisco, right guard Spencer Burford continues to trend towards playing while All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams returned from his Wednesday rest day.

Starting returner Ray-Ray McCloud and third-string running back Jordan Mason once again missed out along with Armstead. It is unclear at this point whether the 49ers are simply playing it safe with both ahead of a bruising blockbuster encounter that could test the depth of both teams.
