With the NFL Draft in the books, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers appear to have bolstered their roster, setting themselves up for potential improvement from last season.
The Buccaneers’ offseason focus was largely on revamping their defense, and while they didn’t aggressively address it in the draft, they supplemented their roster in free agency with the signing of Haason Reddick.
In a surprise move, the Buccaneers selected Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka, a wide receiver, in the first round of the NFL Draft. They then shifted focus to defense, picking Benjamin Morrison, Jacob Parrish, David Walker, and Elijah Roberts, before rounding out their draft class with Oregon’s Tez Johnson, another wide receiver, in the seventh round.
The Buccaneers have undoubtedly upgraded their roster, but a deeper playoff run will require cohesive team effort, especially with NFC South rivals like the Panthers and Falcons closing in.
In Fox Sports’ David Helman’s post-draft power rankings, the Buccaneers held steady at No. 9, with minimal shuffling among the league’s top 10 teams.
“9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Emeka Egbuka landing in Tampa is one of the most fun fits of the first round. He should make the Buccaneers’ offense better right away, while also being a long-term successor to Chris Godwin. The Bucs also threw resources at corner and pass rusher, which is never a bad idea.”
With the right pieces in place, the Bucs have the potential to be a top-tier team, but realizing their third Lombardi Trophy will require unity and cohesion. The team’s draft strategy focused on immediate production, with hopes that their newcomers will seamlessly integrate and drive progress toward their goals.
