Seemingly easy matchup vs Jets is quickly getting scary for the Dallas Cowboys

There's no such thing as an easy game in the NFL, let alone when you're a one-win team heading into Week 5. But for the Dallas Cowboys, that's exactly what many expect this weekend's matchup to be when they visit the New York Jets.

After all, the Jets are 0-4 and are coming off of a loss to the Miami Dolphins, who are considered one of the worst teams in the league. And yet, the Cowboys' upcoming matchup is quickly becoming a scary one as the team's injured list keeps growing and growing.

Think about it this way: The Cowboys have three starting offensive linemen named Tyler in their offensive line—all of them first-round draft picks—and there's a big chance none are able to play. Starting center Cooper Beebe is also out as he's currently on Injured Reserve. In other words, Dak Prescott—who has been elite four weeks in—could play with an offensive line fielding one starter on Sunday.

Who will play and who won't remains to be seen. But here's what we know: Left tackle Tyler Guyton (concussion), left guard Tyler Smith (knee), and right guard Tyler Booker (ankle) all have missed back-to-back practices to start the week. Friday's injury report will include game statuses, which should provide more insight into their chances of playing.

Cowboys insider and radio host Bryan Broaddus said Smith is dealing with tendonitis and should be good to play Sunday. Insider Clarence Hill Jr. reported the plan is for Smith to play, too. That would be massive for Dallas as he's their best offensive linemen. Even if he does play, though, being down multiple starting linemen against a defense that ranks fourth in the NFL in stuff rate, per Sports Info Solutions, isn't ideal.

To make matters worse, the Cowboys are dealing with even more costly injuries even beyond their offensive line.

Other noteworthy Cowboys injuries heading into Week 5 game vs. Jets

Below is a list of Cowboys players who missed practice both Wednesday and Thursday:

  • WR CeeDee Lamb
  • WR KaVontae Turpin
  • S Malik Hooker
  • RB Miles Sanders

Missing KaVontae Turpin could hurt the Cowboys specially with Lamb already expected to be out. The Jets have one of the best cornerbacks in the league in Sauce Gardner, who is known to travel with opponents' top receivers. That means George Pickens will face quite a challenge on Sunday and could use help from his teammates. For what it's worth, Pickens had 111 receiving yards against the Jets last year as a Pittsburgh Steeler, though he wasn't shadowed by Gardner all game.

The Cowboys are currently 2.5-point favorites against the Jets.
