Seventh Round Pick Jack Nelson Could Be A Steal
USA TODAY Sports

In what was a heavy defensive draft, the Falcons used their final selection to take Nelson. He was a five-star recruit coming out of high school and had a pretty successful college career.

Nelson is 6'7", 314 pounds, and can fit right into the left tackle position with his size. He started every game at Wisconsin in both 2022 and 2023.

Nelson is a very raw prospect who saw some of his biggest issues in college being penalized. In 2023 he was third in Division one football with 13 penalties, but he would cut that number in half in 2024 with only seven. He has the size and talent but there are still some tweaks he can make in his game for the next level.

Technique is one of the most important parts of being a lineman, and his stance and pass protection are still two parts of his game he is working on getting better at. His run protection has been his strong suit and that is perfect for a team who has a pro bowl running back.

The Falcons also have some veterans with Jake Matthews on the offensive line that can help the 23-year-old Nelson prosper into a quality NFL Lineman. As a seventh-round pick there is normally not a lot of high expectation but for Nelson it could be different as he is seen as a potential starter.

Nelson along with all the other rookies are looking to make positive impacts out of the gates for a team that's looking to make it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
