Shanahan's Favorite Rapper Name-Drops Rival Coach on New Album

Kyle Shanahan is a huge Lil Wayne fan.

So much so, that the San Francisco 49ers head coach reportedly named his son Carter after the rapper, whose full name is Dwayne Carter Jr.

When Lil Wayne released his new album, Tha Carter VI, you bet Shanahan was excited to tune in.

But he might've been blindsided by the record's second track, "Welcome to Tha Carter", where "Weezy" drops a line about a particular NFL coach.

"Smokin' that bomb LA like I'm McVay."

Shanahan goes way back with Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay, and the latter just picked up another edge on his buddy by getting name dropped in song. Not to mention by Shanahan's favorite artist.

That's brutal.

The rest of McVay's resume also includes another bullet point that Shanahan is desperately pursuing: a Super Bowl title.

In 2021, McVay's Rams defeated Shanahan's 49ers in the NFC Championship game to advance and play the Cincinnati Bengals in the big game. Los Angeles would win Super Bowl LVI in their home SoFi Stadium 23-20.

If Shanahan needed any more motivation after last year's 6-11 record, this call out to his division rival should do the trick.

The 49ers have all the weapons to return to contention as long as they stay healthy. Christian McCaffrey is poised to return with vengeance. Cornerstones Brock Purdy, Fred Warner and George Kittle are locked down long term. And once Brandon Aiyuk returns near mid-season, the arsenal will be fully loaded to make a deep run.

If the 49ers can capture that elusive Super Bowl championship, maybe Lil Wayne will check the next thing off Shanahan's bucket list with a shoutout.

The NFC West rival Rams won't be a slouch, coming off a 10-7 season and playoff win. They also reinforced their receiving unit by adding Davante Adams.

The 49ers and Rams will first meet in Week 5 on Thursday Night Football in LA.

Grab your popcorn. And turn the speakers up.
