Shannon Sharpe explains why the Ravens have the edge over Chiefs, Dolphins as the best team in AFC
USA TODAY Sports

There are four teams in the AFC that currently boast a record of 6-2. One could make a strong case for each of these squads to be called the top team in the conference. For Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe, he believes that this label should go to the Baltimore Ravens.

"I'm going to take the Ravens, I'm gonna take 'Action Jackson' because I believe they are more consistent on both sides of the ball than any other team in the AFC," Sharpe said during a recent appearance on ESPN’s "First Take" program.

"They're first in points allowed, seventh in points scored. Their defense is first with sacks with 31, third in red zone scoring, third in red zone defense."

The Ravens turned many doubters into believers over the span of mere weeks. They have bounced back from their sluggish performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers with three straight wins, including a convincing 38-6 home victory over the Detroit Lions. Their three-game winning streak has them both holding the No. 4 seed in the AFC and sitting comfortably atop the AFC North standings.

The Miami Dolphins sit above the Ravens in the AFC standings, as they hold the No. 2 seed. For Sharpe, he still sees cause for concern with Miami.

"I believe they [Ravens] are more complete than the Miami Dolphins," Sharpe said. "We know what the Miami Dolphins possess offensively, but defensively, I haven't seen that."

The Ravens have another crucial test upcoming, as they will host the Seattle Seahawks in Week 9.
