Shedeur Sanders continues to serve as Deshaun Watson’s backup with the Cleveland Browns after Todd Monken decided to choose Watson over Sanders as QB1 following an intense battle during the offseason. It was a pretty close competition but Watson was just able to edge out Sanders towards the end. But did Monken’s decision mean that Watson would be the starting quarterback for the Browns for the entire 2026 season? The answer was no.
It was reported by Ian Rapoport that the Browns would re-evaluate the position after the first two games. However, Watson was able to do enough to secure his status as the starting quarterback. The veteran’s performances have led to Sanders seeing little playing time, which in turn has led to trade rumors surrounding the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback.
Jeremy Fowler stirred the pot with a report saying the Browns would be open to trading Sanders or Dillon Gabriel for the right price. But a recent report by Daryl Ruiter contradicted that claim, as the Browns beat reporter said that the franchise is looking to develop Sanders rather than trade him. All in all, Sanders has continued to be in the limelight recently.
But that’s something Sanders is used to. It started even before he entered the NFL, when he suffered one of the most shocking slides in recent NFL Draft history. Sanders was eventually selected by the Browns in the fifth round with the 144th pick. What is important to note is that Sanders didn’t have an agent at that point in his career.
But that has changed with Sanders’ latest announcement. Adam Schefter reported, “Browns QB Shedeur Sanders, who went through draft night and the early part of his NFL career without an agent, has signed with Adie von Gontard, CEO of Young Money APAA Sports, for representation.”

This decision by Sanders comes at an interesting time, as trade rumors continue to surround him. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Browns quarterback.
