The Cleveland Browns sent the football world into a frenzy on Sunday after head coach Kevin Stefanski finally gave Shedeur Sanders his first taste of NFL action. Sanders checked into the game in the third quarter after quarterback Dillon Gabriel suffered a head injury. Gabriel was forced to exit the game and has since been ruled out.
Sanders was Cleveland’s QB2 for Sunday’s matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, which meant that he was the next man up after Gabriel went down. It did not take long before Sanders completed his first NFL pass, but it was also followed by a huge sack on a succeeding play.
There has been a lot of talk surrounding Sanders since the Browns drafted him in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. From being a potential first-round pick, the former Colorado Buffaloes star found himself playing the role of a third-stringer in Cleveland.
Browns fans who have been clamoring for Sanders’ debut got their wish on Sunday. It may not have come under the best circumstances, given Gabriel’s concerning head injury, but the silver lining is that Sanders is finally playing in his first NFL game.
The 23-year-old, however, experienced a welcome-to-the-NFL moment almost as soon as he checked into the game. This came in the form of a huge sack courtesy of Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton.

Cleveland’s secondary left Sanders exposed on the play, and Hamilton took full advantage. For good measure, the two-time Pro Bowler even hit Sanders’ infamous watch celebration after the sack.
For context, Sanders celebrated some of his biggest plays during his college days by raising his wrist. This stemmed from the former Buffaloes QB flexing his luxury watch , reportedly an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15550, against the Nebraska Cornhuskers during a game. Hamilton is clearly aware of the celebration and decided to embarrass Sanders by using his own gesture against him.
The sack resulted in a 13-yard loss for the Browns on fourth down. Cleveland was left with no choice but to punt, with Sanders exiting the game after the sequence.
As of writing, Sanders has 2-of-5 completed passes for 12 yards and one interception. The Browns, however, are up, 16-13, early in the fourth quarter.
