Shedeur Sanders' Future With Browns Gets Big Update

Shedeur Sanders is in line for the third start of his NFL career when the Cleveland Browns (3-9) host the Tennessee Titans (1-11) on Sunday. The rookie quarterback is 1-1 in his first two starts, leading the Browns to a 24-10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 12 before falling 26-8 against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 13. In those two games, Sanders was a combined 27-of-45 passing for 348 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Sanders' matchup with Tennessee serves as a visible measuring stick for the fifth-round draft pick, who will face unavoidable comparisons to 2025 No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward, the quarterback for the struggling Titans.

Entering Week 14, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski named Sanders as the starter for the Titans game ahead of fellow rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who holds a 1-5 record in six games as a starter this season. Stefanski insisted that his decision on the No. 1 QB job will be made on a "week to week" basis going forward.

Despite Stefanski's guarded comments, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com told sports radio station 92.3 The Fan on Tuesday that she believes Sanders will remain the starter for the final five games of the 2025 season. In her eyes, that would give the team enough evidence to decide if they need to draft another quarterback next season.

"I think it’s going to be Shedeur the rest of the way because I think they do see something in him, and they want to know do they need to draft a quarterback in April," Cabot said.

The well-established Browns beat reporter added that she "would not be surprised" if Gabriel got another start, but it is not her expectation. Cabot thinks Gabriel will still be on the team in 2026, though.

If Sanders starts the rest of the way, he will have to prove himself against four difficult opponents after his rookie quarterback showdown against Ward this weekend.

If the former Colorado Buffaloes standout can show improved accuracy and efficiency to go with his trademark confidence, the Browns may have enough evidence to trust Sanders to be the starter in 2026 and beyond.

Right now, all we know for sure is that he will be the starter on Sunday. The Browns-Titans game kicks off from Huntington Bank Field at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
