Shedeur Sanders ranks incredibly high in NFL jersey sales

Shedeur Sanders may not have a path to playing time this season, but he is besting almost all of his peers in another department.

The NFLPA released data on player jersey sales Monday during a period spanning from the beginning of March until the end of July. Incredibly, the Cleveland Browns quarterback has sold the fifth-most jerseys of any player in the league during that period, even though he was not even drafted until the end of April.

Sanders’ figure puts him ahead of the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and every other player in the rookie class, including No. 1 pick Cam Ward. Only breakout star Jayden Daniels, reigning MVP Josh Allen, and Super Bowl champions Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts ranked ahead of Sanders.

There is no disputing the reality that no matter how the league views him talent-wise, Sanders is an immensely popular player among fans. His preseason debut drew high ratings as well.

Sanders’ personal popularity stands in stark contrast to how the Browns appear to view him. Though he did make the team, he did so as the emergency quarterback, and will not see the field unless the Browns deal with multiple injuries or a lot of terrible play from Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel. That isn’t stopping people from buying his jersey, and some of his fans have even floated conspiracy theories about the Browns trying to make him look bad.

Initially projected as a first-round pick, Sanders wound up falling to the fifth round before Cleveland took him off the board.
