Shedeur Sanders reveals truth about reported injury

A Tuesday report claimed that Shedeur Sanders was "dealing with a blister issue" on his throwing hand amid the competition with veteran Deshaun Watson for the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback job. 

While speaking with reporters on Wednesday afternoon, Sanders clarified when that problem arose and if it has impacted him during training camp. 

Shedeur Sanders had to "work through" issue at start of training camp

"No, that happened this past offseason getting back into it, just from throwing a lot," Sanders explained, per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "Honestly, that’s where it came from. And it’s all healed up now. But that was a thing, I would say, at the start of training camp and everything that we just had to work through and be able to figure out."

As John Sabol of Cleveland's Fox 8 News noted, Sanders said that he didn't know if he or Watson will start Cleveland's preseason opener at the Chicago Bears on Aug. 15. First-year Browns head coach Todd Monken has said that the competition is too close to call and that both quarterbacks will start one preseason game before a Week 1 QB1 is named. 

Cleveland hosts the Buffalo Bills on Aug. 22, and the Browns will then wrap the preseason up with a matchup against the New England Patriots on Aug. 27.

How Shedeur Sanders feels he is improving during training camp

On Tuesday, Browns safety Grant Delpit said that he felt Sanders has "definitely grown into his second year" and "doesn't look like a rookie out there at all." Sanders indicated that he is growing more comfortable while still learning Monken's offense. 

"I think each and every day we improve as a team," Sanders said, per the Orange and Brown Report. "I've gotten more comfortable within the offense. There's definitely still challenges every day, [things] that you've gotta correct and focus on, and be able to improve." 

Later on Wednesday, Oyefusi noted that Monken said he will inform Watson and Sanders who will start against the Bears after practice. The quarterback who doesn't start will play the third quarter of that game. 

Also on Wednesday, Sanders apologized for giving short answers the last time he stood in front of media members.
