Shedeur Sanders made a lot of noise in his first NFL season with the Cleveland Browns. After being relegated to a backup role for the first half of thecampaign, Sanders took full advantage of his opportunities after taking over the QB1 spot later in the season.

Sanders started the final seven games for Cleveland. He registered 120-of-212 completed passes (56.6%) for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The former Colorado Buffaloes star finished the season with a 3-4 QB record.

It was far from a stellar rookie campaign for the 23-year-old. However, Sanders proved that he is capable of competing at the highest level.

The Browns have made some big moves in the offseason. This includes firing head coach Kevin Stefanski after six years at the helm. They replaced Stefanski with Todd Monken, who served as the Baltimore Ravens’ offensive coordinator last season. The 59-year-old returns to Cleveland after his stint as the Browns' OC during the 2019 season.

The Browns officially unveiled Monken in an introductory press conference on Tuesday. One of the biggest questions he faced centered on the Browns' starting quarterback next season. At this point, Monken has not decided if Sanders will keep the starting job in 2026.

"I think like any position on the team, that's still to be determined," Monken said on Tuesday. "Am I excited about Shedeur? Am I excited about all the quarterbacks in the room? Am I excited to coach this football team? Absolutely. I can't wait for them to get back and for us to get started."

Sanders was asked to comment on his new coach’s statement in an appearance on Kay Adams’ “Up & Adams” show. The Browns star was unfazed by Monken’s declaration.

"That's what's expected," Sanders said. "I think each and every day I have to prove to everybody and to myself, also."

Sanders took over the QB1 role from Dillon Gabriel last season after the latter sustained an injury. Sanders will now need to fight for the starting job again with a new head coach in the building. Three-time Pro Bowler Deshaun Watson, who missed all of last season due to an Achilles injury, remains in the picture as well.

Either way, Sanders remains completely confident in his ability. He is already looking forward to the challenges he will face in 2026.

“You can see it. It’s kind of like mastering how to get to that place all the time,” Sanders told Adams “You have flashes. That’s the most thing I appreciate about this year is that I proved to myself, I’m able to dominate the league. But I’m able to take completions, I’m able to put all of that together, and definitely in games, we have flashes, but I know I’m capable of doing that.

“Now, to do it on a consistent basis, that’s what the goal is. But for me in this past season, that’s what proved to myself. No matter what happened, no matter anything that transpired, you are able to go out there and compete.”
