Deion Sanders kicked off his third year in Colorado on Friday (August 29) by hosting Georgia Tech. However, for the first time since taking over as head coach, Prime led his team out of the tunnel without his sons, Shedeur and Shilo.

The Sanders brothers left for the NFL after completing their final year in college football. Shedeur found himself locked in a quarterback battle in Cleveland, while Shilo, an undrafted free agent, was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a trial basis.

Shilo impressed the Buccaneers coaches during the offseason and in training camp. There was genuine scope for him to tie down a roster spot among the safeties.

Despite a resounding preseason debut, the Buccaneers released Shilo following a moment of pure madness. He still had an outside shot at playing for another team by clearing waivers before August 26. However, he did not receive further offers and remained a free agent.

Shilo Sanders announced his future plans

It’s hard for a rookie UDFA to earn a roster spot on their first attempt. They wait for future opportunities.

NFL teams always hunt for talent to help bolster their squad throughout the year. A chance can arise at any given moment. Joe Flacco and Amari Cooper are great examples of perseverance.

Shilo Sanders will always remain open to answering calls from NFL teams, but he has no intention of loitering around without a job. Until then, he plans to explore his creative side.

I feel like in every athlete’s life, there comes a point when the game ends for you… But you always want to have other interests that you’re interested in. You know, I’ve always done that my whole life, playing football. But music, acting, modeling… I’m well-versed, and my parents made sure of that.

Shilo Sanders announced through his YouTube channel

Shilo Sanders is the son of NFL HOF Deion Sanders and Pilar Biggers-Sanders. Born in Dallas, Texas, Shilo graduated from Trinity Christian before committing to play for South Carolina.

Sanders’ freshman year ended with just one tackle in four games before blowing up the following campaign. He racked up 32 combined tackles, 1 pass deflection, and 1 tackle for loss.

Despite his improved numbers, Sanders entered the college transfer portal and moved to Jackson State to play for his father. Two years later, he was on the move once more. He transferred to Colorado after Coach Prime accepted a job with the Buffaloes.

In half a dozen college football seasons, Shilo logged a total of 217 combined tackles, 6 tackles for loss, one sack, 5 interceptions, and 8 pass deflections.

There’s still a player in Shilo that the NFL teams can utilize in the future. He can also try his luck in the UFL or the CFL (Canadian Football League). An article on Bleacher Report revealed that the Toronto Argonauts own the exclusive CFL negotiating rights for Sanders.

A Shilo-less Colorado experiences defeat in its first game

It was always going to be difficult for the Buffaloes to win games without Shedeur, Shilo, and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter. In the first game of the 2025 season, Deion’s Colorado suffered a 27-20 defeat.

Shedeur’s replacement, Kaidon Salter, showed promise with 17 completions from 28 for 159 yards and one touchdown, along with 13 carries for 43 yards and one score.

Colorado’s next game is arguably it’s easiest of the year. They are scheduled to welcome FBS newcomers Delaware before hitting the road to play the Houston Cougars in week three.
