Shilo Sanders learned his fate on Sunday morning following his ejection from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' preseason finale on Saturday night against the Buffalo Bills when he was ejected for throwing a punch at tight end Zach Davidson.
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Tampa Bay told Sanders that the team is waiving him ahead of Tuesday's deadline to cut the roster to 53 players. Sanders' representation hopes another team claims him on waivers this week.

"Buccaneers informed rookie safety Shilo Sanders today that he is being waived, per his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey, who added, 'we’re hoping he gets claimed on waivers.'"

Sanders understandably wants to join another team's 53-man roster via the waiver wire rather than rejoin the Buccaneers on the practice squad to begin the regular season. Tampa Bay has a deep safety room, as the undrafted rookie was competing with Kaevon Merriweather and Rashad Wisdom for the No. 4 safety spot.
The punch helped seal his fate. Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles was frustrated with Sanders throwing the punch on Saturday night, calling the action "inexcusable." The unnecessary roughness penalty led to a Bills touchdown on the next play. On an earlier drive, Sanders committed a pass interference penalty that led to a Buffalo touchdown.
Sanders finished the preseason with four total tackles. The 25-year-old played six seasons of college football before entering the NFL this year. He recorded 221 tackles, five tackles for loss, six interceptions and seven forced fumbles at the college level.
