Should Chiefs Go After Veteran CB?

The Kansas City Chiefs have had a busy offseason. They have made moves on both sides of the ball and added more players in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Chiefs' roster is now better than it was before the start of the draft. The Chiefs took a lot of different players in the draft that will make the defense and offense better.

But one move that the team can still make is adding a veteran player to the defense, which the team still needs. And that is veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore. Gilmore is a veteran player, but he can still play at a high level. And adding him on the defensive side of the ball could make the Chiefs' defense elite.

The good thing about adding Gilmore is that he would not cost much money, and the Chiefs will not have to ask him to be the elite cornerback he once was, or not even the number one cornerback on the roster. Gilmore can be good across from Trent McDuffie.

McDuffie is one of the best cornerbacks in the National Football League, and adding Gilmore will make it hard to pass against those two players.

The Chiefs' secondary struggled last season at one cornerback position. Whatever side McDuffie was covering, the opposing offense would attack the other side. That was a major concern for the Chiefs in 2024.

The Chiefs have a chance to fix that before the start of the 2025 season. The safeties did not help that as well. But Gilmore sure can, and it would be a move that will help the Chiefs in making another run at a Super Bowl.

Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo can also benefit from adding a veteran like Gilmore. It will give Spagnuolo more plays he can call because he knows that there is a veteran player who knows exactly what he is doing and that he can trust all by himself.

The Chiefs did draft a cornerback in the 2025 NFL Draft, but he can benefit to learn from McDuffie and Gilmore. That will go a long way toward setting him up for success in the future for the Chiefs' defense. But will the Chiefs make any more moves before the start of the NFL season?
