Should The Buccaneers Draft A Quarterback In 2026?

Buccaneers’ quarterback Baker Mayfield is heading into the final year of a three-year contract this season. What he chooses to do after that is still up in the air.

So the question becomes, should the Bucs start thinking about the future and take a look at the quarterbacks this year’s draft?

A quarterback who could come in and develop in the system and work his way into a role if needed or if not needed be a possible trade option for the team. This seems to me like the smart move.

On the other hand, it could rock the boat for Baker. We all know what happened to him in Cleveland, and I’m pretty sure the team would want to make Baker certain he isn’t being pushed out.

To be honest, I do not believe anyone in this draft is threatening to Baker.

With quarterbacks going down every season and Bakers own health in mind, it really seems like the team could use some insurance at the position.

If the team could pick up a player like Garrett Nussmeier in this draft, I certainly wouldn’t be against it.

Nussmeier is just the type of guy you want to develop and can possibly start at some point. His senior bowl performance showed he can play from the pocket, he is not so heavily reliant on his run ability as he is his arm and intelligence.

I’m not saying the Bucs are going to draft him per se, he’s just an example of what the team could use to make a transition from one quarterback to another much easier than the long drawn out process this team has become accustomed to. whoever it is, the Buccaneers should give some thought to the future instead of waiting for it to come to them.
