The New Orleans Saints-Detroit Lions game got plenty of attention for something that did not even occur on the field. Rather, there was a collision on the sideline, resulting in a serious injury for a member of the chain gang.

Nick Piazza suffered a fractured fibula and a dislocated knee, a Saints spokesman said Monday.

Original reports following the game said that Piazza avoided major injury and wasn't expected to need surgery. Unfortunately, that isn't the case.

He will likely undergo surgery next week for the fracture, but the Saints said that his blood vessels remain intact.

During the game, Piazza remained on the ground for a handful of minutes while trainers attended to him after his collision with Kamara. His leg was immediately put into an air cast. He was eventually carted off the field. It was a scary scene.

Hopefully, Piazza makes a speedy and full recovery.
