The Los Angeles Rams have made several interesting offseason acquisitions, but there may still be one more significant addition on the way. Specifically, former Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey has been on the trade block since before the 2025 NFL Draft kicked off and it appears the Miami Dolphins are still looking to move on from the 30-year-old playmaker.
What’s more, Rams head coach Sean McVay has already expressed an interest in reuniting with the former Super Bowl champion. So, what’s the holdup here?
According to ESPN’s NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the breakdown in negotiations is due to money. Ramsey has a $16.6 million cap hit for 2025, but he’s guaranteed even more over the next four years of his contract, which is where the problem lies.
“The sticking point here is that $24 million in guarantees. My sense after asking around is Miami has not been overly eager to cover some of that bill, which sort of makes a trade hard to pull off right now. L.A. Rams, it could be a reunion here. They’ve been in the mix here, they are a team to watch, certainly for Ramsey.”

Ramsey and the Dolphins are both still working toward a trade, but he reportedly only has an interest in playing for a contender. Since the Rams reached the Divisional Round of the NFC Playoffs last season, they would certainly seem to fit Ramsey’s needs.
While it would appear that Ramsey is on the way out, whether all parties involved can find common ground on the money side of the deal remains to be seen.
