The Green Bay Packers have a couple of questions regarding their roster that remain to be answered before the season begins. One of the most recent developments has been the report that two-time Pro Bowler Elgton Jenkins has not been participating in offseason activities because of a dispute regarding his contract.
As many fans are aware, the Packers are moving Jenkins to center from left guard after signing Aaron Banks in free agency and allowing Josh Myers to depart. While Jenkins is more than willing and able to switch positions, he is concerned that the move will hurt his future value in the league.
Centers make far less money than guards, so Jenkins (who knows Green Bay does not usually hand out third contracts to players) presumably wants an extra year or two added to his current contract, or would like to see the rest of the money guaranteed.
Undoubtedly, Green Bay and Jenkins will figure something out. However, while they figure that new situation out, they must also continue to navigate the waters with Jaire Alexander.
The situation between Alexander and the Packers is complicated. There is no doubt that the two-time Second Team All-Pro remaining with Green Bay would be the best case scenario for both parties. Alexander would be able to continue collecting his top-five NFL cornerback salary while the Packers would have one of the best coverage corners in the league.
That being said, it remains to be seen if they will be able to overcome their differences. On Tuesday, head coach Matt LaFleur opened up about the situation without really telling fans anything new:

“Ja is a great player. Unfortunately, he’s been a little snake bitten over the last couple of years,” LaFleur said. This is a reference to the fact that Alexander has played just 14 of a possible 34 regular season games over the last two years.
As for what the end game looks like with their star cornerback, LaFleur held the company line: “We’re working through it.”
The Packers start OTA’s next week, and one cannot help but wonder if the team will be any closer to a resolution by then. Alexander did participate in virtual sessions after the NFL Draft, but did not show up for voluntary workouts during rookie mini camp.
