The Seattle Seahawks are giving the 12's plenty to be excited about. Seattle is looking inspired under head coach Mike Macdonald in Year 2 and the team's offensive overhaul is paying serious dividends thus far. But the fireworks for Seattle fans hasn't just been reserved for on the field thus far this season.
Former Seattle defender and Legion of Boom centerpiece Richard Sherman, during his on-air duties with Thursday Night Football earlier this season, took a very clear and obvious shot at the quarterback of those great Seattle teams, Russell Wilson — who has since been benched by the Giants in New York for rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.
"Without that legendary defense (in Seattle), he's been 4-11, 7-8, 0-3 to start with the Giants," said Sherman, arguing that Wilson was ruining (or ruined) a potential Hall of Fame legacy. Not everyone agrees. One of the other members of the peak of that Seattle team, defensive end Michael Bennett, recently went on defensive lineman Arik Armstead's podcast 'Third & Long' and discussed the rift between Sherman and Wilson.
"I don't think (Sherman's stance) is right. If we did that for every player, that means Russell Westbrook isn't a Hall of Famer. That means Carmelo Anthony, his last two years...I think it's an unfair statement. I think that Russell and Sherm need to go to some type of marriage counseling or something, where they both just get in there and hash it out. I think Sherm's assessment of Russell's career is unfair. I think Russell has done everything he needed to do, I think he hasn't had that kind of success over the last couple of years to be considered one of those old-school greats — be still great at the level that he was, like how Tom (Brady) left New England and went to Tampa Bay and won a championship. I think at the end of the day, I'm going to say Russell is a Hall of Famer."

Wilson's post-Seattle career certainly hasn't played out how many expected. Given the haul of draft picks and the monster contract he received from the Denver Broncos, Wilson was certainly expected to be the chef of a major turnaround in Denver. But those shortcomings and disappointments should be considered a footnote relative to his peak.
Less than 100 yards away from 14th place all-time in career passing yards, 12th place all-time in career passing touchdowns, 5th place all-time in passer rating, and a Super Bowl championship certainly feels like a Hall of Fame resume — regardless of the disappointments after Seattle or even the contributions to how that version of Seattle ended up falling apart.
