One of the best wide receivers of the last two decades recently went viral on social media, and it had nothing to do with his playing career.

A man named Tony Martinez accused former Baltimore Ravens and Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. of sleeping with his wife on social media. Martinez said that his wife was a member of the Marching Ravens, the Ravens' team marching band.

He then shared explicit messages between his wife and a man he says is Smith, as well as a video of him confronting a man over the phone about the infidelity.

In the video, a man asks someone over the phone if they've slept with his wife, and then asks what the person has to say for themselves. On the other line, the person - who Martinez alleges is Smith - simply says "sorry."

After the allegations were levied against the 45-year-old former wide receiver, one of his sons took to social media to respond.

“Your kind words and prayers are felt and appreciated. God’s got us,” Smith's son Peyton said on Instagram, sharing a photo of himself with his mother and siblings.

“I won’t take much time feeding into the negativity, but to those sending hateful messages to my family, I hope you take time to reflect that you have nothing better to do with your day than to message hate to a stranger.”

Smith played in the NFL from 2001 through 2016 after being selected as a third-round pick out of Utah. He was a five-time Pro Bowler, three-time All-Pro and the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year in 2005.

Smith spent the first 13 seasons of his career in Carolina with the Panthers before playing his final three seasons with the Ravens. He played in one Super Bowl during his career, catching three passes for 80 yards and a touchdown against the New England Patriots.

Following his playing career, Smith has worked as an analyst for NFL Network and has also hosted podcasts and other football-related media. During the preseason, he has also called games for the Panthers' broadcast network.
