Sooners are deep in the weeds of a competition against National Championship contenders for four-star recruit

It is no secret that the Oklahoma Sooners need more help on the offensive line in 2025 than they got in 2024. There were a handful of bad things that combined to make the line bad, but that can't happen again.

The Sooners are in the SEC now, where the trenches may be the most important aspect of your team. We saw that last season. If they want to protect their quarterbacks and have a good run game, which also leads to being successful in the SEC, then they need to recruit the offensive line.

Luckily for them, they have landed in the top six for a four-star offensive lineman.

Oklahoma Sooners land in top six for 2026 IOL

Drew Evers is a four-star interior offensive lineman from Flower Mound, Texas, in the class of 2026. At 6’4” and 302 pounds, he’s ranked No. 117 overall and No. 4 offensive tackle in the 2026 class by Rivals. His size, strength, and camp performances have drawn offers from top programs like Oklahoma, Texas, Ohio State, Alabama, and Georgia.

Evers is uncommitted but has visited Oklahoma, Texas, and Ohio State multiple times, with official visits scheduled for Ohio State (June 6-8, 2025), SMU, Penn State, and Texas A&M.

One thing that the Sooners have in this recruiting competition, if you will, is that Evers seems to love Bill Bedenbaugh and the track record he has of sending guys to the NFL. Bedenbaugh is known around the college football world as one of the best offensive line coaches there is.

But, the competition will be hard with a few of those teams being National Championship contenders, like Ohio State and Penn State, who both made the College Football Playoffs last year, with Ohio State winning it all. And, you could even throw SMU in that, too, as they also made the playoffs. Their money and location in Dallas, Texas make them a huge threat in recruiting.

If the Sooners want a kid who has the potential to be an elite interior offensive lineman, they really have to make a push here. Teams like LSU and Texas A&M are also in the fold, making his top six list. But, the fact that the Sooners are in his top-six, competing for a recruit that those other schools also are, says a lot about the upward trajectory that Venables has the program going in in terms of recruiting.
