With the NFL trade deadline looming, speculation is heating up about potential deals that could shake up team rosters. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reportedly explored trading for Green Bay Packers OL Elgton Jenkins, a move that seems to make sense given both teams’ needs. Still, despite the apparent logic, such a blockbuster deal might be a long shot.
According to Packers insider Easton Butler, the Buccaneers have made contact about acquiring former All-Pro center Elgton Jenkins. For Tampa Bay, the appeal is clear: Jenkins would bring much-needed stability and elite talent to an O-line unit that’s been a concern. With his versatility to play all five positions at an elite level, he’d be a game-changer for a team looking to protect its QB and boost its running attack.
For the Packers, trading Jenkins isn’t out of the question. With speculation swirling about a potential post-season departure due to his hefty contract, Green Bay might see value in cashing in on Jenkins now. If they’re planning a youth movement and cap reset, getting draft capital in exchange for a player who might be gone soon could be a strategic move, allowing them to accelerate their rebuild.
Still, a mid-season trade for Jenkins is a long shot. The Packers rely heavily on him as a linchpin of their O-line and a key locker room leader.
There are no collaborating reports to support Easton Butler’s tweet. We’re not saying he didn’t “hear” this. But we are saying common sense would lead you to look for additional confirmation. This appears more like rage bait posting that actual an actual developing story.
But the Buccaneers do need help on their offensive line you say, so this might be a viable report. The problem, or problems with that thinking are, Bucs’ GM Jason Licht doesn’t typically make trades during the season. In fact, Licht has only made ONE in-season trade… ever.
Then add in the issue of why Green Bay would be “selling” when they have one of the best records in the league? Furthermore, why would they trade a player of this caliber to someone they may very well play against in the playoffs?
