Sources Say Cowboys Actively 'Making Trade Calls' for Major Move

The Dallas Cowboys are no strangers to draft-day fireworks. But this year? The smoke definitely feels like it leads to fire.

Owner Jerry Jones openly admitted on Tuesday that there are "substantive" trade conversations already in the works.

And now on Wednesday morning comes word from our Mike Fisher, via multiple sources, that Dallas is actively :taking - and making - trade-down phone calls ahead of the NFL Draft … early laying groundwork.''

Combine that with recent buzz surrounding names like George Pickens and Courtland Sutton, and the Cowboys’ war room could be ground zero for one of the NFL’s biggest draft night splashes.

Both the Steelers and Broncos — the teams holding Pickens and Sutton, respectively — have quietly let it be known they’re open for business. And both receivers happen to fill a significant remaining need: an explosive WR2 to pair with CeeDee Lamb.

That’s why a trade package — involving a receiver and a pick swap — makes so much sense. Take Dallas’ pick at 12 and turn it into 21 + George Pickens? Or 12 in exchange for Sutton and 20 from Denver?  It’s not far-fetched as the baseline for a deal of some sort. Especially with Sean Payton's history of moving UP in the draft parlayed with his "open line of connection" to the Jones' as Mike Fisher so eloquently stated.

And if you need even more reason to believe? Let’s go to the numbers.

According to Clarence Hill, the Cowboys have made 72 draft-day trades since 1989. In fact, 112 of the 316 players selected by Dallas since that year were chosen with picks acquired in trades. The Cowboys have also been involved in 170 total trades with the other 31 NFL teams since '89 — with the Raiders (18) topping the list.

History says they don’t just trade. They love to.

With hours, the rumors are swirling. And Jerry’s finally saying the quiet part out loud.

Something’s coming. Just follow the smoke.
