Sources: Two freshmen wide receivers for Alabama will shake up the rotation

Alabama football has two freshmen wide receivers that will play a role in its rotation.

Caleb Odom and Ryan Williams, both five stars, have the potential to put the Southeastern Conference and college football on notice in the fall. Odom was a playmaking tight end at Carrollton (Ga.) High School while Williams earned “Mr. Football” twice for the state of Alabama at Saraland High School. According to sources close to Touchdown Alabama Magazine, Odom will start in a “Mike Evans-like” role offensively before being trusted with more. Evans was a superstar at Texas A&M before turning pro.

“Odom will be a guy for jump balls, third downs, and red zone things, especially in the back of the end zone,” sources said.

Evans served in that role at Texas A&M with Johnny Manziel at quarterback, collecting first-team All-SEC and Consensus All-American honors in 2013. Evans had 69 receptions that year for 1,394 yards and 12 touchdowns. He got drafted in the first round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014 and has had a great career. Evans is a five-time Pro Bowl selection, a ten-time 1,000-plus yard receiver, and a Super Bowls Champion. Sources see that kind of potential in the 6-foot-5 Odom for Alabama at receiver.

As for Williams, sources say he ‘has a spot in the four wide receiver look.’ 

The speed and playmaking abilities he brings make him an ideal starter. Williams can out run defenders in the slot or on the perimeter. He loves competing against the best and will have defensive backs in practice that will make him better.

Odom and Williams want to strike fear in the hearts of defensive backs.
