The first of multiple goals the Indianapolis Colts have on their list for the 2025 season is to win the AFC South for the first time since 2014, thereby securing their spot in the AFC playoffs. To do that, they will need to knock the Houston Texans off the throne that they've sat on for the past two years.
During Thursday's practice, the Texans saw a star player that they signed this offseason go down with what could potentially be a significant injury.
#Texans safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson is down and it looks serious. Appears to be his knee. Field is silent. Players are all taking a knee @KPRC2

Gardner-Johnson joined the Texans this offseason during free agency to become one of their starting defensive backs this season. He is a unique player who has been able to play multiple different positions during his career. He has the ability to line up at either safety spot, as well as being a difference maker as a slot corner. So if he has to miss significant time, it would be a major loss for Houston.
The Colts don't play the Texans for the first time till Week 13, so unless this is truly a significant injury that forces Gardner-Johnson to miss most or all of the regular season, he would be out there for their two matchups. And I think I can speak for the team and fans when I say I hope he avoided a significant injury and can be ready for Week 1, as well as both matchups against the Colts. The Colts want to win the AFC South against the other three teams at their best, not because of default. We will likely have to wait a day or two to find out the extent of Gardner-Johnson's injury, and it'll be something all three teams, including the Colts in the AFC South, are closely monitoring.
Entire team gathers around injured #Texans safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson. It is a somber moment. He appears highly upset @KPRC2 https://t.co/JnWrZYRdYK
