Star player reportedly requests a trade from Commanders

Terry McLaurin has been in a contract dispute with the Washington Commanders this offseason, and it would appear the star wide receiver has run out of patience.

McLaurin informed the Commanders on Thursday that he would like to be traded, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

ESPN's Adam Schefter says teams have expressed interest in acquiring McLaurin, but the Commanders have thus far not shown a willingness to move the two-time Pro Bowl wideout.

McLaurin is in the final year of a three-year, $68M extension he signed with Washington in 2022. He initially held out from training camp, but he reported to the team on Sunday. McLaurin still has not practiced as he deals with what is said to be an ankle injury.

The 29-year-old McLaurin is reportedly seeking a new contract that is worth at least as much as the five-year, $150M deal D.K. Metcalf signed after he was traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this offseason.

McLaurin led Washington last season with 82 receptions, 117 targets and 1,096 receiving yards. He also had 13 touchdown catches, which was second in the NFL. McLaurin has had five consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards.

While the Commanders have some insurance after they acquired Deebo Samuel in an offseason trade with the San Francisco 49ers, McLaurin is still their best receiver. McLaurin also has a close relationship with Jayden Daniels, and the reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year made that clear recently.
