After working out three defensive linemen on Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles are giving one of them an opportunity.
First reported by UFL insider Mike Mitchell, the Eagles will be signing San Antonio Brahmas defensive lineman Jacob Sykes of the United Football League.
Per league sources: The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to sign DT Jacob Sykes today. That would make him the 15th UFL player signed by an NFL team.

As NFL teams start training camp league wide. Multiple players from @TheUFL have received workouts in recent days.
Sykes… https://t.co/aCl8PZx1MT
Sykes participated in a workout for the Eagles on Monday, competing with Leonard Payne, and Joseph Evans for a chance to add value on Philadelphia's defensive line, and extend their professional football careers.
Sykes ultimately earned the Eagles' favor after spending two years in the UFL with San Antonio. The Harvard/UCLA alum does have a connection to Philadelphia, as prior to his tenure in the UFL, he spent 2023 with the Eagles' current defensive line coach, Clint Hurtt, who was his defensive coordinator during his first NFL opportunity.
He graduated from UCLA in 2023, after spending four seasons at Harvard. After being released by the Seahawks as a undrafted free agent, Sykes joined the UFL in February of 2024 and would go on to spend two seasons with the San Antonio Brahmas. In 17 regular season games with the Brahmas, Sykes would total 32 tackles and 2.5 sacks, while also appearing in two postseason games in 2024.
Sykes now has the opportunity to potentially secure a practice squad spot in Philadelphia. Traditionally, defensive linemen have had the most success (outside of specialists) transitioning from the UFL to the NFL in the past several years. Players like Jalen Redmond (Vikings), Dondrea Tillman (Broncos), LaBryan Ray (Panthers), Jeremiah Pharms (Patriots), Khalil Davis (Texans), Bruce Hector (Jets), CJ Brewer (Bucs), and Lacale London (Falcons) have all made impacts for their NFL teams since earning opportunities from spring leagues.
Sykes also becomes the second defensive lineman the Eagles have signed from a spring football team, as they took a chance on Olive Sagapolu in 2023 (USFL-Pittsburgh Maulers), who was ultimately released at the conclusion of their 2023 training camp.
