Stat suggests that Matthew Golden is really close to a huge NFL breakout game

There is no doubt that Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden is an exciting talent. Green Bay made him the franchise’s first wide receiver to be taken in the first round in over two decades when they selected him 23rd overall at the 2025 NFL Draft. That alone shows how much belief the team has in the former Texas Longhorns star wideout.

However, Golden has yet to produce a game that’s been widely viewed as a true breakout performance.

But he’s also starting to show signs that it’s about to come. After producing just 16 receiving yards on two catches and four targets in the first two weeks, Golden has racked up a total of 11o receiving yards on nine catches and 10 targets in the last two games. Against the Dallas Cowboys on the road in Week 4, the 22-year-old Golden had 58 receiving yards on five receptions and six targets.

1 stat suggests Golden is zeroing in on a huge performance

While the raw numbers don’t show it, Golden has shown he can find his spots downfield. In Week 2’s win over the Washington Commanders, in which he did not register a catch, he had two targets that could have been converted into home run touchdown scores. His ability to create separation from defenders has always been there, with opposing players finding it hard to keep in step with his incredible speed.

Of course, there are growing pains for Golden in the NFL, but once he figures it all out, he should be a much bigger threat as part of Green Bay’s Jordan Love-led air attack that is currently eighth in the league with an average of 232.8 passing yards per game.
