The New York Giants are 2-3 after a surprising 29-20 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday and look to be turning a corner. They're now heading into a primetime bout with the struggling Cincinnati Bengals in Week 6.
In ESPN's preseason rankings, New York sat 26th with quarterback Daniel Jones featured on the team's hot seat. Roughly a third of the way into the season, he hardly looks to be a problem.
Two key stats demonstrate that New York is sound on both sides of the ball this year, despite what its record may say.
1. Daniel Jones doesn't need Saquon Barkley to run a steady offense
Jones threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's win over Seattle, and that was without his top producer in rookie wideout Malik Nabers and starting running back Devin Singletary.

The sixth-year passer has tallied 1,138 yards in his first five games this year (34 percent of which Nabers is responsible for). He's also tossed three consecutive 200-plus yard games, the first time he's done so since Weeks 11-13 in 2022.
Jones' passing yards total after Sunday is the second-best start he's had to a season in his career. He is on pace for a 3,869-yard year (227.6 yards per game), which would be a career-best. Keep in mind, this is all without former star running back Saquon Barkley, who was responsible for 11 percent of Jones' career total.
2. The Giants' defense is loaded and dangerous
Believe it or not, New York's defense leads the league in sacks with 22 — the third-highest total through five games over the last 15 seasons, per ESPN.
Two Giants players are in the top 20 individually for sacks: Dexter Lawrence is tied for second with six and Jason Pinnock is tied for 20th with three.

New York is 12th in the league in total defense, 15th in passing yards allowed per game and 12th in rushing yards allowed per game.
New addition linebacker Brian Burns sits third on the team in sacks (two) and tackles for a loss (three). He's forced defenses to choose between blocking him, linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux or defensive tackle D.J. Davidson.
They're not elite, but the Giants are a far cry from the basement where they were projected to sit as a squad before the season started.
