Status Quo For Cowboys' KaVontae Turpin Under Brian Schottenheimer

The Dallas Cowboys' receiver room has garnered a lot of attention this offseason, and even more so with the signing of George Pickens.

With the top two spots in the depth chart final, behind CeeDee Lamb and Pickens, it is a jumbled picture. Jalen Tolbert and Jonathan Mingo are the two names that many believe will be up for the No. 3 receiver role.

But don't forget about KaVontae Turpin.

Former head coach Mike McCarthy called Turpin a "rocket ship" with the ball in his hands, and we saw that on display at times last season.

Now with a new head coach/play-caller in Brian Schottenheimer, Turpin has a chance to establish himself not only as a star returner but also as a genuine receiving option.

“I just say be coachable, be available, “Turpin said on how he can take advantage of his opportunities. “Let my guys believe in me, that's what I'm here for. I just signed a contract, so that's what I'm here for, and I'm just trying to be a playmaker, be that big playmaker I was for the last two years with the ball in my hands.”

Used more as a receiver last season, Turpin totaled 420 yards and two touchdowns from 31 receptions, so the talent as a passing weapon is there.

Yes, we know all about his All-Pro return ability, but with such blazing speed, we saw Turpin be used on jet sweeps last season to try and get the most out of his snaps.

With there being no definitive No. 3 receiver right now, although Tolbert has the inside running, don't sleep on Turpin becoming more involved in the offense under Schottenheimer in 2025.

A genuine nightmare for defenses to stop with the ball in his hands, Turpin will be used often by Schotty; it is just a matter of how he will be deployed in this new-look Cowboys offense.
