Steelers Add Offensive Assistant from Arthur Smith’s Atlanta Staff
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers have hired Mateo Kambui as an offensive assistant, the team announced on Friday.

Kambui was an assistant offensive line coach with the Atlanta Falcons under new Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith in 2023.

Before his stint with Smith, he was a coaching fellow with the Denver Broncos from 2021-22. Before that, he was a graduate assistant at Georgia Southern for one season and running backs coach at his alma mater, Florida A&M in 2019.

He played two seasons for the Rattlers, play in 22 games at center, after starting his college career at Butler (Ks.) Community College.

The Steelers already have an assistant offensive line coach in Isaac Williams, but it’s possible that Kambui could work with the tight ends or running backs. Offensive quality control coach Matt Tomsho, who was not retained for 2024, usually worked with the tight ends along with coach Alfredo Roberts.

In addition to announcing the hiring of Kambui, the Steelers also officially announced the additions of quarterbacks coach Tom Arth and wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni

The future of Mike Sullivan, who was quarterbacks coach from 2021-23 and is still under contract with the team, remains unclear, though he reportedly is expected to remain with the Steelers.
