Steelers Announce Roster Move Amid Jaylen Warren News

Just over an hour before Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced running back Jaylen Warren won't be suiting up.

ESPN's Adam Schefter initially showed optimism that Warren would play against the Vikings after being a late addition to the injury report. "Steelers RB Jaylen Warren, who was added to the injury report on Friday with a knee injury, is expected to play Sunday in Dublin vs. the Vikings," he said on Saturday, Sept. 27.

Just a day later, the Steelers officially ruled Warren out for the game and announced veteran running back Trey Sermon was elevated from the practice squad.

"Also inactive this week is running back Jaylen Warren, while running back Trey Sermon was elevated from the practice squad to the Active/Inactive roster. Sermon was signed following a tryout during the Steelers rookie minicamp this year, but brought experience with him," the Steelers said in a statement on Sunday morning.

It's the second straight elevation for Sermon, who was also elevated for last weekend's 21-14 win over the New England Patriots. He's appeared in 43 career games over four seasons and has racked up 505 yards and three touchdowns on 134 rushing attempts.

Before signing with the Steelers he played the last two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts where he saw 91 carries for 319 yards and two touchdowns.

Veteran running back Kenneth Gainwell and rookie running back Kalen Johnson will likely see the bulk of the work against the Vikings, who sport one of the best defenses in the league, on Sunday.

The Steelers and Vikings kick off at 9:30 a.m. ET with the game broadcast on NFL Network.
