Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. Misses Practice
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Steelers rookie cornerback Joey Porter Jr. did not practice on Sunday, a day after Mike Tomlin said that Porter Jr. suffered bumps and bruises that are normally associated with training camp. He stood off to the side, and there was no obvious injury, but he did get his left ankle taped briefly during a point in practice yesterday, and this could be related.

The Steelers held a light practice after two straight hard-hitting days in the pads. So, many veterans and anyone with little nicks got off, so that could be all this is at this moment. Regardless, Joey Porter Jr. is fighting for a starting spot with veteran Levi Wallace, so every day matters in that pursuit.

The team has suffered a number of dings in the secondary, with Damontae Kazee and Keanu Neal suffering injuries. Cory Trice is out for the season after suffering a significant right knee injury. Of course, it does not appear that Porter Jr. is likely to miss much more time, but his absence is notable on the list of injuries to come out of yesterday’s practice just after another physical one that occurred on Friday during the team’s annual Friday Night Lights practice.
