Connor Heyward didn't have the best offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers. A lot of Steelers fans were calling for his release, which prompted his brother, Cam Heyward, to come to his defense amid his contract situation.
Well, come Week 1, with a plethora of Steelers tight ends in front of him, Heyward played just four offensive snaps. He did most of his work on special teams, but there was one play that stood out for all the wrong reasons. A block in the back that resulted in a flag, has now resulted in a fine for Heyward.

Heyward's fine totaled $6,327. For whatever reason, Steelers pass catchers tend to love incurring fines from the league office. George Pickens was a repeat offender in 2024. He's gone, but the headaches haven't exactly left.
“Y’all don’t respect him for who he is and how he works and if you all saw the way he cares and saw the way he puts in the time to try to get better and answer all those things,” Heyward said on Not Just Football with Cam Heyward regarding his brother Connor. “I just feel like y’all have done him a disservice in not giving that kid a chance.
”And I’ll say this: half of the people talking can’t even line up, so I don’t want to hear anything more about them. He doesn’t get enough respect, but I don’t think y’all could even do what he’s doing. I wish a lot of people would just shut up and let him work.”
As Mike Tomlin always says, "I'd rather say woe em, than sic em," so I appreciate the passion and intensity from Heyward in Week 1, but hurting the team and your pocketbook is never a smart idea.
