The Pittsburgh Steelers traded to bring in superstar DK Metcalf in the 2025 offseason.

There was a ton of excitement about the potential of Metcalf lining up opposite wide receiver George Pickens. It felt like a match made in heaven, two physical and explosive playmakers capable of dominating defenses.

However, in a shocking twist, the Steelers turned around and moved on from Pickens, leaving fans stunned. The move instantly created questions about Pittsburgh’s depth at wide receiver and whether the team had a reliable option behind Metcalf. Calvin Austin III has continued to impress, but his injury has caused extra reason for worry.

On Wednesday, a report emerged that the Raiders could be open to trading wide receiver Jakobi Meyers. Meyers requested a trade in the preseason.

Pittsburgh had interest back in August, and the WR would be worth pursuing now as well. He is a dependable route runner with strong hands and experience in multiple offensive systems. If the report comes true and the Raiders indeed shop Meyers, the Steelers might have the perfect opportunity to fill the void left by Pickens and strengthen their receiving corps around Metcalf.

Steelers' Omar Khan always willing to make a splash

Steelers general manager Omar Khan has always been clear about his willingness to make aggressive moves. He is constantly looking for opportunities to improve the roster, and this season presents a prime chance to do just that.

Pittsburgh sits at 4-1 and has a legitimate shot at making a run for the Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers leading the offense. Metcalf has been outstanding so far, and so has Austin when healthy. The concern, however, is the potential for injury or inconsistent availability, which has the Steelers feeling they could use some extra help at wide receiver.

So far in the 2025 season, Meyers has caught 29 passes for 329 receiving yards. He has yet to score a touchdown and has reportedly been wanting out of Las Vegas for some time. For Pittsburgh, this could be the perfect opportunity to acquire a reliable, proven receiver to strengthen the offense and provide a safety net behind Metcalf.

For Khan, this is exactly the type of game-changing move he has shown he is willing to make. Adding Meyers would give the Steelers another weapon in the passing game, reduce the pressure on Metcalf and help ensure the team’s Super Bowl window remains open. If the trade comes together, it could be a decisive move that shifts Pittsburgh from a strong team to a true contender in 2025.
