As Super Bowl-winning HC Mike Shanahan would say, "Never accept anything in a win that you wouldn't in a loss."
And while the Pittsburgh Steelers continued their win streak against the best team they faced yet, the Washingtion Commanders, there was one play that left many shaking their head.
That would be the fake punt that worked perfectly...Unitil it didn't.
The man who dropped the ball, CB James Pierre, just so happened to explain exactly what went wrong:
“I knew it was coming all week. I was practicing all week for it. I caught it all week," said Pierre after the game. "When it came, I was ready to go, too ready. I was really hard on myself, but my teammates helped me out.”
Hard to blame the call when you see it was the execution that cost them, but that didn’t seem like the time of place for a fake.

To be fair, the call is only heavily scrutinized because it didn't work. If Pierre catches the wide-open pass and executes the play to perfection, the risk element would have been noted but all that matters is the first down.
Instead, it was Mike Tomlin who took the blame for the call, but he didn't back down from being aggressive, going as far as to say that he would make the call again in the future:
"You can't come in hostile environments versus good people and not be aggressive and aggressively pursue victory," said Coach Tomlin after the game. "We're not going to live in our fears. That's just how we go out. Same thing on the fake punt. That is on me. I own that, but I'll do it again. We didn't execute it, so it was a bad idea, but our guys fought."
While there is no room for living in your fears in Pittsburgh, there is a time and place for fakes and trick plays, and that early in the game and that close to your own endzone didn't feel like either.
But as everyone who watches the NFL knows, winning cures all.
As it stands, the Steelers are undefeated since the start of the Russell Wilson era, winners of four in a row, and maintain sole possession of first place in the AFC North.
We'll see if that carries over against the Baltimore Ravens next Sunday.
