Steelers Dealing With Three New Injuries to Start Week 3
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Steelers are dealing with three new injuries heading into their Week 3 matchup in Las Vegas against the Raiders. Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday that Minkah Fitzpatrick, Gunner Olszewski, and Elandon Roberts all suffered ailments during the team’s 26-22 win over the Cleveland Browns on Monday. Due to injuries, the team is already without Diontae Johnson, Cam Heyward, and Anthony McFarland for the next four games.

“Gunner’s [Olszewski] in the concussion protocol don’t have a lot of details there,” Tomlin said. “Minkah [Fitzpatrick] was taken to the hospital last night as a precaution based on the information that I have here today. They feel good about where he is. We’ll see where the week leads us. Elandon Roberts went out of the game with his with a stinger, he lost strength. Usually, that comes back to you in a number of days. And so, we’ll watch him at the early stages of this.”

Fitzpatrick suffered a chest injury while diving to save a touchdown run by Jerome Ford. The team took Fitzpatrick to the hospital to make sure he was okay, and there is optimism going forward that he will be okay after suffering a chest contusion on that play.

Fitzpatrick should be able to make a relatively quick recovery from that injury, but it remains to be seen if he can play during what is a short week leading up to the Steelers’ Week 3 game in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, Olszewski got injured on a play where he fumbled and immediately went to the locker room after suffering that injury. He must clear all five steps of the concussion protocol to play Sunday, but with only six days until the game, the steps for Olszewski to make it there are narrow.

Roberts suffered the injury on a special teams play. However, he did return to the game. That injury is a wait-and-see game for the Steelers, as stingers usually subside in a few days. Pittsburgh has a lengthy injury report as they continue through the season.
