Steelers Eye Game-Changing Move for Elite Cornerbacks

The Pittsburgh Steelers were extremely busy this off season and they might not be done acquiring talent.

The team added Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf, and Darius Slay Jr. as well as Derrick Harmon and Kaleb Johnson through the 2025 NFL Draft. They haven’t won a playoff game since the 2016-2017 season, but they are poised to make a run this year.

Entering his third season as a professional, Joey Porter Jr. has emerged as one of the top man-to-man cover guys in the NFL, often taking the challenge of guarding opposing teams’ best wide receiver.. However, he was one of the most penalized at the position in 2024 with 17 penalties committed.

Bringing Slay into the secondary will surely assist with Porter’s development. He’s coming off a Super Bowl win as a Philadelphia Eagle and has been playing high level football for nearly a decade.

The Steelers secondary is still led by former All-Pro Minkah Fitzpatrick, but the team is reportedly interested in bringing in another elite corner.

The Green Bay Packers recently released Jaire Alexander after the two sides struggled to come to an agreement that would restructure his contract. Although he’s only played in just 34 of a possible 68 games since the start of the 2021 season, Alexander brings an aggressive approach that can elevate a defense.

His fast reactions stand out, as well as his elite ball skills, allowing him to force turnovers and shut down top-notch receivers when healthy.

Jalen Ramsey of the Miami Dolphins is also a great option. The Dolphins and Ramsey have mutually agreed to move on because of salary cap concerns and the team would like more flexibility.

A move for Ramsey would likely be via trade and if the Steelers could land him, it would be massive. Like Alexander, he’s a physical corner, who excels in man-to-man situations. He loves to jam receivers at the line of scrimmage to disrupt timing and to play on his terms.

Despite bringing a different looking roster into 2025, the Steelers are shaping out to be a legit contender, especially if they are able to add one of these defensive playmakers.
