The Pittsburgh Steelers have been very busy this offseason, making a lot of big moves that have dramatically changed the look of their roster.
Most recently, the Steelers made headlines across the league with a blockbuster trade that sent star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for tight end Jonnu Smith and veteran cornerback Jalen Ramsey. This surprising deal has sparked widespread discussion and they don’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
Recently, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler took to X to hint that the Steelers might not be finished making moves this offseason. His post sparked a wave of speculation among fans and analysts about whether another big move is on the horizon.
Recently, Fowler appeared on 93.7 The Fan to provide some clarity and confirmed that the player he was referring to in his post was wide receiver Gabe Davis. This has only started more conversation about whether Davis could fit in the Steelers offense and whether another big move is on the horizon.
"I was referring to Gabe Davis because they had a good visit with him a couple of weeks ago," Fowler shared. "He liked his visit a lot."
Rumors have been circulating for weeks linking Davis to the Steelers, ever since he made his visit a couple of weeks ago. Initially, there was a lot of excitement surrounding the visit, but when no immediate news followed, many people assumed that the Steelers had decided to move on and explore other options. However, that doesn’t appear to be the case after all.
During Fowler’s recent appearance on 93.7 The Fan, he not only confirmed that Davis is still on Pittsburgh’s radar, but also offered insight into why a deal may have been delayed. Fowler shared possible reasons for the holdup and provided some context around the timeline, suggesting that discussions may still be ongoing and that a potential deal could still come together soon.
"I don't think he's quite healthy yet because he had that knee meniscus issue from last year, so he's probably more of a training camp conversation," Fowler added.
Injuries have been one of the primary concerns surrounding Davis throughout his career, and they remain a key consideration in any potential deal involving him. While his talent is undeniable, his overall impact has at times been limited by his availability. That said, if Davis can remain healthy, he has the potential to be a valuable addition to the Steelers receiving corps.
With training camp set to begin later this month, it likely won’t be long before we get more clarity on whether a deal is truly in the works. Based on Fowler’s recent comments, the possibility still exists, and the coming weeks could be crucial in determining whether Davis will officially become a part of the Steelers roster.
Beyond his recent visit to Pittsburgh, there are several other reasons why Davis could realistically have a future with the Steelers. Reports have indicated that general manager Omar Khan has had a “very open-minded” approach when it comes to exploring available talent, something that has been reflected in the team’s recent moves.
Additionally, the Steelers are actively in search of a second reliable receiving threat following the departure of their former star wide receiver, George Pickens. Davis, with his experience and talent, could be seen as a strong candidate to help fill that void and bring added depth to the receiving corps.
While nothing is officially confirmed, this may simply be speculation. Still, there’s a strong case to be made that Davis would be a great fit for the Steelers offense.
