The Pittsburgh Steelers have made their final roster decisions and trimmed their team down to 53 players. After multiple releases and trades, the Steelers have their initial 53-man roster set. There were a number of tough decisions to make and the Steelers will hope to bring some of those players back on the practice squad.
The initial 53-man roster is only temporary. The Steelers could still make moves as the regular season approaches and some current members of the 53-man roster could also land on injured reserve.
As it stands, here is the first 53-man roster for the 2026 Pittsburgh Steelers:
QB: Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph, Drew Allar, Will Howard
RB: Jaylen Warren, Rico Dowdle, Eli Heidenreich (RB/WR)
WR: DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr., Germie Bernard, Roman Wilson, Ben Skowronek, Kaden Wetjen
TE: Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington, Robert Tonyan, Riley Nowakowski (FB)
OL: Troy Fautanu, Mason McCormick, Zach Frazier, Spencer Anderson, Dylan Cook, Max Iheanachor, Gennings Dunker, Brock Hoffman, Ryan McCollum
The biggest question was whether or not the Steelers would carry four quarterbacks. For now, they will. One surprise was Eli Heidenreich getting the nod above Lew Nichols and Travis Homer. Expect the Steelers to potentially make a few more tweaks before September 13th.
OLB: T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, Nick Herbig, Jack Sawyer
ILB: Patrick Queen, Payton Wilson, Cole Holcomb, Carson Bruener
DL: Cam Heyward, Keeanu Benton, Sebastian Joseph-Day, Derrick Harmon, Yahya Black, Gabriel Rubio, Kevin Jobity Jr.
CB: Jamel Dean, Joey Porter Jr., Jalen Ramsey, Asante Samuel Jr., Daylen Everette, Brandin Echols
S: Rayshawn Jenkins, Jaquan Brisker, Robert Spears-Jennings
ST: Chris Boswell (K), Cameron Johnston (P), Christian Kurtz (LS)
The only real big surprise might be Kevin Jobity Jr. He made a big final audition in Buffalo and clearly won over the coaching staff. He and Gabriel Rubio will be the rookie defensive tackles to make the initial 53-man roster.
Up next, the Steelers have a practice squad to fill out. Expect that to be completed in the coming days.
