The Pittsburgh Steelers are suddenly in the market for a wide receiver after trading away George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. The organization strengthened the wide receiver corps earlier in the offseason by trading for DK Metcalf, but Pittsburgh is now back to needing help at the position. The Pickens trade was necessary as the young receiver has shown no signs of maturity throughout his career, and the Steelers have been looking to stock up on draft capital in future years. General Manager Omar Khan will be looking to acquire another wide receiver, and there are some obvious spots to look.
One spot the Steelers have to look when it comes to adding to the wide receiver position is the Green Bay Packers. The Packers have had a solid mixture of wide receiver twos (WR2s) over the last several seasons, and now the organization just drafted Matthew Golden in the first round, and Savion Williams in the third round this year. The franchise would be making a mistake not to explore trading some wide receivers that are already on the roster, which is where Romeo Doubs comes into play.
Pittsburgh insider Ray Fittipaldo was asked about the possibility of the Steelers acquiring a receiver from Green Bay, specifically Doubs. He didn't make the potential acquisition of Doubs sound too promising.
"I think he'll investigate all options, so yes," Fittipaldo wrote. "But the Packers have to be willing to make the deal. Doubs has been a bit of a problem for the Packers, so buyer beware I guess."
Doubs is only 25-years old and he has been a very effective wide receiver when he has been healthy. The wide receiver has had an issue with concussions up until this point in his career, and injuries as a whole have been an issue. He has also been a slight distraction for his team, which is the exact reason that Pittsburgh decided to part ways with Pickens.
Doubs made headlines during the 2024 season when the Packers suspended him for their Week 5 game. He was suspended after missing two days of practice while he was suspected of being frustrated due to his lack of involvement in gameplans. He came out later and said that he was dealing with some things off of the field. He finished the year with over 600 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He has always been able to produce in crowded wide receiver rooms, but his injury history and other issues should make Pittsburgh wary of trading for the player.
The wide receiver is also an intriguing option because he played with quarterback Aaron Rodgers during the 2022 season. This was Rodgers' final season in Green Bay. Rodgers is more than likely going to be the starting quarterback in Pittsburgh for the 2025 season, which would make acquiring Doubs even more interesting.
Pittsburgh has plenty of options to consider when it comes to the wide receiver position. There are other choices outside of Doubs in the Packers organization alone, as third-year player Dontayvion Wicks is another intriguing player. He has been a pleasant surprise for Green Bay, and there is a real possibility that he could be on the move.
Green Bay has two rookie wide receivers that the organization is going to want to be involved, and Jayden Reed was already promised the number one receiver role.
Packers GM Brian Guteksunst met last week with Jayden Reed’s agent Drew Rosenahus to clarify the wide receiver’s status in Green Bay after the team drafted Matthew Golden and Savion Williams. The team said it will not affect Reed’s status as its top receiver, per source. pic.twitter.com/ZsysCOqmXB

The two rookies, Reed, and Christian Watson is a ton of talent in a wide receiver room. It is hard to imagine both Doubs and Wicks are on the roster when the 2025 season begins, and the Steelers should be the frontrunners to land one of the two wide receivers.
