Steelers Great Hines Ward Is In The Running For A New Wide Receiver Coaching Job
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Pittsburgh Steelers legendary wide receiver, Hines Ward, transitioned into coaching after his illustrious career in the NFL. Despite expectations that Ward might join the Steelers' coaching staff, the position was filled by Zach Azzanni. Undeterred, Ward persists in his quest for the next coaching opportunity.

According to Chris Karpman of 247 Sports, Ward is now under serious consideration for the wide receivers coaching position at Arizona State University.

“Hines Ward, a former Super Bowl MVP and four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is a candidate to fill Arizona State's open wide receiver coaching job, according to people familiar with the search.”

Ward's coaching journey commenced as an offensive intern for the Steelers in 2017, showcasing his early dedication to learning and advancing within the coaching domain. His subsequent role as an offensive assistant with the New York Jets from 2019 to 2020 served to fortify his grasp of the sport and refine his coaching acumen.

A pivotal moment arrived when Ward transitioned to the position of wide receivers coach at Florida Atlantic University in 2021, where he shared his expertise with budding collegiate athletes. However, in 2023, Ward reached a pinnacle in his coaching career when he was appointed head coach of the San Antonio Brahmas, a testament to his coaching prowess and a harbinger of further achievements in the football coaching realm.

Regrettably, Ward's trajectory encountered a setback when he was displaced as head coach of the Brahmas. He know looks for another job to reignite his coaching career. It appears that the Sun Devils may be his next landing spot as a coach.

Continuing his report, Karpman delved deeper into the Sun Devils' interest in Ward. Should he be selected, Ward would assume the role of their wide receivers coach.

"The Sun Devils hosted Ward at their Tuesday spring practice and met with him about the vacancy one day after former New England Patriots wide receiver coach Troy Brown interviewed with ASU Head Coach Kenny Dillingham for the same job."

Steelers' Hines Ward Looks To Continue His Legacy In The Coaching Realm

Ward's transition from star wide receiver to aspiring coach has been a challenging journey, typical of many embarking on coaching careers. Despite facing setbacks, he has gleaned invaluable lessons along the way, indicating that his next opportunity may be on the horizon in Arizona. During his illustrious tenure with the Steelers, Ward secured two Super Bowl victories, earned four Pro Bowl selections, and garnered three All-Pro honors. Notably, he clinched the Super Bowl XL MVP title.

While Ward's Hall of Fame induction remains pending, opinions on his eligibility diverge. Nonetheless, Ward remains steadfast in his dedication to coaching improvement and eagerly anticipates his next chance. Steelers enthusiasts eagerly await updates on Ward's forthcoming coaching endeavors.
