The Pittsburgh Steelers have some pretty big competition for Gabe Davis. The former Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills wide receiver is in Pittsburgh, set to go through a second medical evaluation with the team as they try to lock down an additional pass-catcher before the regular season.

After he leaves the Steelers, though, Davis is headed to Buffalo, where he'll meet with his former team, the Bills. While Pittsburgh has their eyes on Davis as their next big-bodied wide receiver alongside DK Metcalf, Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson, they may not have the upper-hand in signing him.

According to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac, Davis is set to undergoe more testing in Pittsburgh before going to Buffalo for a visit. The Steelers had initial medical concerns when they met with Davis earlier in the offseason.

Buffalo was where Davis started his NFL career. The 26 year old was a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft for the Bills, playing in 64 games with 47 starts during four years. He caught 163 passes for 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns, with three of his four years there catching seven touchdowns per season. The other season, he had six touchdowns.

After leaving the Bills, Davis signed a multi-year deal with the Jaguars, but only played in 10 games with nine starts before suffering a miniscus injury that ended his season. He was released early in the offseason and has since visited the Steelers and New Orleans Saints as he looks for his next landing spot.

In Pittsburgh, Davis would likely be the first wide receiver opposite of Metcalf while Austin played the slot role. He'd be joining a new offense, but would have Aaron Rodgers throwing him the football. That being said, Rodgers may not hold the advantage of 2024 MVP Josh Allen.

Of all teams the Steelers would have to compete with, Buffalo may be the most difficult. It's unknown if the Steelers will make a contract offer to Davis before he leaves the building, but if this goes into a bidding war, the competition with Buffalo may be the biggest battle the Steelers could face for the young wide receiver.
