One of the most drawn-out quarterback battles through the summer took place in Pittsburgh between sixth-year pro Mitchell Trubisky and rookie Kenny Pickett. Midway through the Steelers' Week 4 loss to the New York Jets (their third straight defeat), head coach Mike Tomlin made the call.
He addressed the decision with reporters on Tuesday.
Tomlin says it's not all Trubisky's fault: "I don't want to dump the responsibility of what transpired at Mitch's feet."

"Hopefully that's a catalyst for us," #Steelers coach Mike Tomlin says of switching to Kenny Pickett at the QB position. "Our business is winning."

Mike Tomlin on the #Steelers new starting QB, Kenny Pickett: "We're excited for him and about him."

(He's not the only one. I personally am excited to not have to keep answering my seven year old's daily queries, "Mommy, when's Kenny going to play?")
In three-plus games this season, Trubisky recorded a 59.5 completion percentage with 653 passing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, while adding seven carries for 24 yards and one score.
Pickett didn't take any snaps over the first three weeks of the regular season and went 10-for-13 with 120 passing yards zero touchdowns and three interceptions in relief of Trubisky on Sunday while adding six rushing attempts for 15 yards and two scores on the ground as well.
Pittsburgh will take on the Buffalo Bills in Week 5 at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday. Trubisky spent the 2021 season with the Bills as the backup to Josh Allen.
Mike Tomlin says he DID consider going back to Mitch Trubisky this week because of his familiarity with Buffalo.
