Steelers Honest 'Concern' On Signing Rodgers Revealed

Without a true answer at their starting quarterback spot, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been linked as a favorite to sign free agent Aaron Rodgers.

Things have been this way for months following numerous conversations between the Steelers and Rodgers, but the future Hall of Famer is continuing to take his sweet time announcing - or even making - a decision.

Despite how slow this process has developed, most odds remain in Pittsburgh's favor in landing the 41-year-old QB.

NFL insider Dan Graziano strengthened these beliefs by talking with members of the organization to get the Steelers' honest feelings about the situation.

"First of all, they remain optimistic that Rodgers will sign and be their starter, and that he'll play better than he did last season for the Jets now that he's one year further removed from his 2023 Achilles injury," Graziano said.

"I don't get the sense the Steelers are as concerned about their quarterback room as everyone else."

Regarding the rest of the unit, Pittsburgh has signed Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson and drafted late-round pick Will Howard from Ohio State.

Still, most in Steel City would prefer to have Rodgers calling the shots as the starter.

And most would like him to quit dragging his feet, causing what we would indeed term "concern.''

Rodgers is on the free agency market after two disastrous seasons with the New York Jets that included a torn Achilles in 2023 and a 5-12 record in 2024.

Despite the poor record, Rodgers proved that he could still play at a high level. Last season he completed 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns. He is also just a few years removed from winning the league MVP award in 2021.

If the Steelers are so optimistic that Rodgers will end up with the black and gold, it sounds like they are also content waiting, too.

According to Pittsburgh-area radio host Chris Mueller, we may not have to wait too much longer on a decision.

"The Steelers are making a big announcement tomorrow. And I believe it's that they're signing Aaron Rodgers," Mueller said on Monday.

Well, now it's Wednesday and we have no big announcement. Go figure.

Only time will tell how long Pittsburgh's optimism can persist.
